Last year we carved our pumpkins a bit early (I guess I just got a little excited to share this tradition with kiddos that were old enough to “get it”). We had some sad looking pumpkins by the time Halloween arrived and I wound up throwing one of them out before the 31st! In order to make sure our pumpkins stayed nice and fresh looking we did a little natural preservation this year.
Once you have carved your pumpkins take a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil and mix in a few drops of tea tree oil (Melaleuca). Then smear the mixed oils over the carved flesh of your pumpkin! Both coconut oil and tea tree oil have antibacterial and antifungal properties and will help your carvings stay looking great for longer!
