Cloth diapers for a Baby Shower and a Blessingway GIVEAWAY!

When Kelly’s Closet notified their affiliates (which includes lil-ole-me) that they were putting on a Blessingway Giveaway I thought it was a perfect opportunity to put together a (Kelly’s Closet inspired) newborn gift set for that special mom-to-be in your life. Not only have I built the ultimate baby shower gift list, but one lucky person will win a great cloth diapering package!

Blessingway winner's package

Now, I’m a firm believer that it’s a really good idea to discuss cloth diapers with the mother-to-be before buying her one of the most useful and money saving gifts she will EVER get. Make sure she’s at least down to give cloth a go. You could print up some info from the Real Diaper Association for her so that she won’t be overwhelmed by your gift. That, coupled with the book “Changing Diapers“, should get your mother-to-be feeling good about jumping right into cloth diapers!

Cloth diapers are the gift that keep on giving. It can be overwhelming to get started and to make that initial investment but with help from an experienced cloth diaper using friend, the journey can be fun. Disposable diapers cost parents an average of $1,600 by the age of 2. You might even leave a little handmade “coupon” for $1000 that reads “use simple cloth diapers and keep $1000 in your pocket by the time your baby is 2!”

So here’s my idea of an ultimate Baby Shower or Blessingway gift from Kelly’s Closet. It totals $123.05 so it may be a gift that you could purchase with a friend or more (depending on your budget). Buying a gift like this gives a new cloth diapering mom the chance to find what style diaper will work best for her and her baby by giving her several styles to try.

-Rumparooz Lil•Joeys Newborn Diapers 2pk for $29.97 per 2 pack (This is an All In One or AIO diaper)

-FuzziBunz(R) Perfect Size Cloth Diaper with Insert X-Small for $13.95 each (This is a newborn sized pocket diaper)

-Kissaluvs Newborn Fitted Cloth Diaper for $13.95 each (This is a fitted diaper that requires a cover)

-GroVia® Bamboo Prefolds for $8 per 3pack (This is a prefold diaper and requires a cover, minimal folding and possibly a fastener)

-Rumparooz Diaper Cover for $9 (This is a diaper cover and requires an absorbent inner. It fits 4-12 lbs)

-Snappi diaper fastener for $3.95 each (These are to fasten prefold, flat and contoured diapers on a baby. They replace pins.)

-GroVia Pail Liner for $15.25 each (This is a large water resistent bag to hold soiled diapers.)

-Planetwise Wet/Dry bag for $21 (This is a medium sized bag that can hold soiled diapers in a diaper bag.)

To make this gift totally complete, fill a mason jar with your favorite cloth diaper safe detergent and fill a baby food jar with coconut oil so that mom has a handy jar of cloth diaper safe diaper rash balm for her diaper bag!

I love the idea of a Blessingway. I love adding Blessingway ideas to every baby shower. To learn more about what a Blessingway is please see THIS post at the Diaper Shops Blog. When you get right down to it, a Blessingway is about celebrating mother and baby, supporting them and blessing them. While many moms are uncomfortable having a baby shower for children after their first or second (or first boy & girl), I believe each baby should be celebrated. Why not have a little tea and come up with some creative ways to support the growing family? We all need support!

Gathering appropriate hand-me-downs as well as making a meal that could be frozen and eaten on one of those many days when having to make dinner might just cause a full blown mommy meltdown, just might be a lifesaver. (Make sure to ask if there are dietary restrictions for mom and avoid gassy foods that may cause tummy troubles in a newborn.)

I hope this post helps you build a bountiful gift for a very lucky family! What was your favorite cloth diaper related gift? Please share in a comment!

    Diaper sprayer!

  2. Natalie says:

I would honor a new mom by bringing frozen meals and offering to take her toddler/other child for a play date

  3. Christine Bailey says:

I would love to able to bless my friend who is expecting her first with this gift!

  4. Aleia says:

I would honor a new mom with swaddlers and premade dinner.

  5. Kim Bokor says:

I would help a new mom by making some meals to freeze for her. I am expecting and that is the best gift I could get….that or someone to watch baby so I can shower :)

  6. MB says:

Being the first in my family and circle of friends to cloth diaper, I didn’t receive any cloth diaper-related gifts. But, what I do think was a great gift in another way is the support of both of our families in our cloth diapering endeavor :-) If a friend was to become pregnant, I would definitely make her some homemade meals and offer to help with household chores.

  7. Tamara Younger says:

I think making a meal or offering to help watch the baby so the mom can get a good nap are great ways to help a new mom :)

  8. Jenette Zecena says:

I think this would be a great starter set for my twin sister. She started off wanting to do cloth, but is hesitant with all the “work”. I want to show her how easy, and money saving it is.

  9. Brittany S says:

I love bringing frozen meals for new moms…It was something I wanted desperately, and hope I get with this new little one. :)

  10. Ann says:

So far, I’ve gotten just 2 FB pockets from my best friend. Hoping for more at my showers!

  11. Kathryn says:

I like to make chocolate covered strawberries for the new moms I know. It’s just some well needed fancyness after the hospital yuckyness.

  12. Dawn says:

I would take a meal over and eat it with her! Sometimes new moms just want to talk about their baby and get advice as well as fill-ins from the “real world”!

  13. Christie D. says:

I would offer to help with household chores while she rests.

  14. Ginger Burgess says:

Food! I was always hungry as a new mom but infrequently up to making it myself.

  15. Sarah F says:

I’m expecting our first in March and all of my friends are single, but what has been helpful for myself thus far is dinner help, so I would probably do that for a fellow new mom.

  16. Katie W says:

I’d ask what impractical/expensive thing she’s secretly drooling over (for the baby or herself) and sneak it to her.

  17. Kara Drovdahl says:

A friend, who is an OB, is expecting twins and very nervous. He’s delivered over 1,000 babies, but never had to care for one and has never changed a diaper. He and his wife want to cloth diaper, so I’m putting together a starter package for them out of some of mine.

    • janice says:

Kara, how sweet of you! Check out the Real Diaper Associations web page and look for local resources to find a real diaper circle leader near you. I bet your OB friend would get a lot out of a cloth diapering 101 class! Let me know if you are close to Ventura county CA and I’ll be happy to show your friend the ropes! :-)

  18. Julienne says:

Any gift supporting AP.. baby carrier :)

  19. domestic diva says:

I always give moms-to-be a baby carrier to help them bond with their little ones.

  20. Jodie says:

I would and have helped out with meals and cleaning, and other items. I try to be helpful and listen to their questions and concerns and help if I can. money’s tight here, so I do what I can as cheaply as I can.
